Claudelands House Additions and Alterations
Client
Project Alterations and Additions
Location Hamilton
Completed 2012
This was an existing three bedroom,1930's brick and tile house with all the living areas facing south, and kitchen and bathroom areas which were too small to meet the family's needs. An existing garage and sleepout were of poor construction and not in keeping in with the appearance of the existing house. The family required a four bedroom house, with two bathrooms and an office area, and to have all the living areas opening out into the back yard which faces north.
The garage and sleepout were demolished to allow for the construction of a new wing that housed the kids bedrooms and bathroom, along with the office, laundry and back entrance door. The existing house was completely remodeled with open plan living spaces and a new kitchen. A new garage was added to the existing house.
The character of the existing house has been retained and the new garage is in keeping with that. The new wing however is distinct from the existing house, with a mono pitch roof and is clad with painted bricks. The new wing and existing house are 'tied together' by the use of cedar clad 'boxes' which contain storage cupboards and window seats.
Interior design was completed by Parkhurst Design and won a Resene Total Colour award in 2012
