Project Methodist Church: Additions and Alterations
Location Te Awamutu
Completed 2010
Built in the early 1900's, this existing church has huge historical significance, but it no longer suited the changing needs of the parish and its wider community. In particular, the old “boys brigade” hall on the site was neither structurally sound, nor fit for use, and was demolished as part of this project.
The project involved connecting the existing church to Bryant Hall behind. The link to connect these two buildings includes two new lounge areas (which can be opened into one) a new parish administration office, and new kitchen and ablution facilities. A new front entrance was also added in keeping with the existing brick cladding
Internally, a circa 1970's addition, which was out of character to the historic body of the church, was removed and rebuilt which has helped enhance the internal acoustics. Re-configuring of the onsite carparking was carried out to Territorial Authority requirements and all work was approved by the Historic Places Trust.
